"First Impression:
Both the chassis and the starter box were more than I expected.
I thought the RC system and plug heater could have done with a little more attention.
I know its relative to price, but I think this kit meets expectations.
Start and Break-In:
I prepared as per the instruction manual.
I used 20% nitro fuel. Using my own plug booster, the engine started first time! But idling was too high.
The size of the starter box and the 7.2V battery realized a very convenient way to start the engine.
Adjusted idling straight away and ran one tank through. With a fan on the engine head to keep it cool, I ran the engine without any load. I thought the sound was too high relative to the amount of exhaust. Idling was stable and I could recognize the high-quality construction of the engine.
This was my first experience with an engine in this class so I was a little worried about its stability given its small size. There was nothing to worry about at all.
Break-In Running:
I set the carburetor a little rich and ran slowly.
I thought the throttle servo specifications suited the size and response was good.
By picking the model up and opening the throttle, you can feel the sharp response of the engine.
However I thought the linkages interfered with each other a little. I thought this might cause trouble at some point.
Regarding the steering servo, at a certain level of torque it doesn't return so there may not be enough torque in the servo.
I would like to try correcting this next time by adjusting the tension of the spring in the steering wiper.
I didn't adjust anything in the suspension other than dropping the chassis height a little.
I thought that the tires included didn't perform so well on a paved surface.
After 10 tanks of fuel, I called it a day."
Summary:
Although I am still breaking the engine in, I think it is an extremely well finished product overall.
Even compared to the electric version, the weight and response of the chassis puts this machine in an entirely different category.
I will make some minor setting adjustments as time permits.
